about us

our mission

We are a Toronto-based film club organisation that aims to combine great films
with thought-provoking discussions about what keeps us up at night.

Our goal is to create an environment where film enthusiasts
can connect with creators in the industry and expert panelists
through conversation about central movie themes.

Nick Uffen (he/him) is the Project Manager for Sleepless Cinema.

You might recognize him from his acting roles in goofy docu-dramas that air in the middle of the night.

When he’s not hard at work sharing the joy of film with the world, you can find him obsessing over the Criterion Collection and getting stuck on the NYT Sunday Crossword.

Favourite movie: Burning (버닝) (2018)

Rachel (she/her) has historically been a huge fan of events where people gather in a space to watch a film and talk about it from all angles.

This is her first venture into programming, in which she hopes to be able to facilitate a stimulating conversation.

She is a big fan of directors named David. Her favourite movies are Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992) and Mystery Men (1999).

Gail is a seasoned festival & event coordinator taking her first stab into the world of marketing!

As an Arts Manager, Gail loves building brand kits and establishing the personality behind a project; she is so excited to bring those skills to Sleepless Cinema!

In her spare time she can be found making
soul collages under soft purple lights.

Her favourite movies are:
Say Anything… (1989) & High Fidelity (2000)
(because John Cusack)

Cindy Ci (she/they) is the Head of Communications for Sleepless Cinema

Cindy is a Chinese-Canadian theatre practitioner, aspiring academic, and emerging arts administrator.

They are excited to expand their branches and work as the Head of Communications for Sleepless Cinema, waiting patiently for the emails to roll through.

Her favourite movies are
Coraline (2009) or Cats (2019)
 (because thats what the
“C”s stand for in their name)

Maxim Luca Bortnowski (he/him) is a Toronto-based photographer and filmmaker and is presently the creative coordinator
at Sleepless Cinema.

In his spare time…
he watches movies…
a lot of movies…
too many movies.
He’s trying to watch over 1,000 movies in a single year…

Will he accomplish this goal?
Probably not, but hey, here’s hoping.

Favourite movies at the moment:
La Planète Sauvage (1972),
Perfect Days (2023),
and La Belle Noiseuse (1991)
